Ok, so I've been a total bum all week and am just now posting about our little foray last weekend.

We hit the road and headed up to Camp Verde to see Out of Africa Wildlife Park. The Park used to be in Fountain Hills, but in 2004 they ran into some issues and packed up all their critters to head north. I've never been to the Park (in either location) so we figured it was time to go!

The first part of the Park is a "safari ride", which has us sitting in a modified school bus - basically, take an OLD school bus, beat the hell out of and cut off the top. Voila! A safari bus! We rode through their "safari reserve" and got to feed the giraffe. We also saw ostrich, sable antelope, oryx, zebras and some other animals. We could have fed a camel, but the camel was cranky this day.

The second part of the Park is habitats with lions, tigers and bears - Oh my! And some emus, javelina, wolves, and others. They also have a gigantic Anaconda, which we petted. (It was a very patient snake to have about a hundred screaming kids all touching it and just lay there docile.) And then there was the Tiger Splash show.

The show was two trainers enticing the tiger to attack a parade of various inflatable toys. The tiger won every time. Dozens of pool toys were injured in the making of this show. (Most of them looked like "veterans", sporting patches and now really being very "inflatable" anymore.

It was a fun day, and we saw lots of animals. After Out of Africa, we headed over the short drive to Jerome, but I took super crappy pictures there. I'll have to do a separate "out and about" to give Jerome its full due. (Its one of my favourite places in all of Arizona.)
